Jason served a traditional six year indentured apprenticeship with Knight and Cross in Earls Barton working mainly on heritage projects for the National Trust. After gaining an advanced craft City and Guilds in Carpentry and Joinery Jason worked on various projects around the world and also spent some time teaching before deciding to form Oldeways Period Joinery. After working in the industry for so long and seeing how skills are dying out Jason is great supporter of training and Oldeways Period Joinery works with CITB offering apprentices to young people. Oldeways apprentice Tom Dryden has recently won the East Midlands Skill Build competition in Joinery we reflects the level of training and experience that our apprentices gain and the high standard that we instill in our whole team.
When Oldeways was formed we worked mainly on the conservation of Listed Buildings but we now offer various glazed solutions for every type of property and also skirting boards, architraves, built in furniture and staircases.
In 2003 the government brought in new regulations to govern the fitting and replacement of doors and windows which is all covered in Part L of the building regulations, this does not apply to listed buildings. From 2003 windows and doors had to have an energy rating (a U-value) and Fensa was formed to govern this, at the time the U-Value required had to be less than 2.0 as this was all that UPVC windows could reach.
At Oldeways Period Joinery we saw that this coursed a problem for anyone who had a period property and wanted to replace there window or doors as there was at the time very little options.
Jason decided that with the high levels of craftsmanship and the years of experience that our highly skilled team has at Oldeways we could design windows that met the Part-L regulations but also did not detract from the look of the property at this point we could offer window and doors which had a U-Value of 1.5, 25% more energy efficient than UPVC. The regulations have tightened again in 2010 and all windows that are covered by Part-L have to have a U-value of 1.6 or below and doors 1.8 or below Oldeways offer Hardwood windows and Hardwood doors with U-values of 1.5 and below if required that will last a lifetime.
